Kojey Radical Drops Nine-Minute Short Film For “Water”

Music

Last month, Kojey Radical and rising Birmingham R&B starlet Mahalia collided on a dreamy but rousing new track called “Water”. The track was produced by Swindle who gave the track its ethereal, free-flowing vibe. Now, Kojey’s back and he’s brought with him a visually rich, captivating and dramatic short film to go with the track. Surreal in parts, deeply moving in others, the MOS Popular Human-directed visuals clock in at just under nine minutes and give us yet more understanding of the depth of Kojey’s artistic vision, and a potent view of his exploration of issues like gender roles.

In an Instagram post promoting the video, Kojey explained, “I was luckily enough to be raised by a family of strong females — Craig, my director, also — and we wanted to make a visual that was heavy on representation not only just for women but also to create and elaborate on conversations on black masculinity. And how we connect and understand each other as genders. For us, an untold story is easily one of the biggest burdens one can carry and we really want to use our creative voices to tell as many stories as possible. I hope people find their own meaning within this visual. Not one dictated by me. And, ultimately, I hope that you enjoy it.”
